UAP Student attends Commonwealth Programme

With a goal to create awareness about Global Food Security, the Association of Commonwealth Universities Summer School completed the fourth annual programme with the university of Nottingham Malaysia campus from October 17-23, 2014.

Abdullah Al Mamun, a Bachelor student of civil engineering at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) was selected to attend from over 750 applicants among 40 countries and awarded a partial bursary, demonstrating outstanding caliber of students as future leaders across the Commonwealth.

The summer school was started in 2011 to provide a forum to bring together a selected group of high quality final year, undergraduate and post graduate students throughout the commonwealth to discuss interdisciplinary issues of global importance.

The theme of this year's program 'Global Food Security' can we feed a growing world? A multidisciplinary look at food security allowed participants to learn about various aspects of food production, looking closely at distribution, environment management, migration, biotechnology, farm management, supply chains, nutrition and food policy in a holistic approach to learning. In the several programmes, applicants were divided into different groups. In their respective groups, they used the theoretical sessions as well as the visits to shape their final presentations and abstracts on the wider issue of food security. The winning team has featured in the next edition of the Bulletin in November.

Abdullah were being congratulated for putting forward such a strong application, as is the UAP or fostering his learning.
